Rhian’s 2013 roller coaster
When the suggestion was floated for us each to blog about our year I cringed. 2013 was not the year I’d hoped for. It really has been a roller coaster ride for me. Plenty of highs but those have been overshadowed by the stomach dropping lows. On a personal front I’m not ready to talk openly about the lows but I will say I value the support and friendship of those close to me that know the details. I love each and every one of you with all my heart. THANK YOU for seeing me through this past year and continuing to be there while I navigate these difficult times.
Now I’ll talk about the highs before I get all teary and leak all over the keyboard.
Feb saw the release of my third contemporary holiday novella, Valentine’s Dates
and the release of Sand, Surf And Sunnie
In June Mr.C and I celebrated 25 years of marriage. Not sure how the hell we got this far without killing each other or with our deep love still intact but we did and with each day I love him more. Yes, even when he makes me want to strangle him. To celebrate the momentous occasion we took two (the others didn’t want to come. IDIOTS) of the tribe with us for a family holiday in Hawaii (I should point out this trip was promised for our 10th wedding anniversary. Better late than never I guess.). OMG! Totally in love. And I got to do something I’ve dreamed of doing most of my life. I saw the lava flow into the ocean! We toured the volcano on the big island from a doorless helicopter. Yes, you read that right. NO FUCKING DOORS!!! We’ll definitely be going back. Not to the doorless helicopter but to Hawaii. In fact there’s talk of possible going in 2015 for Princess&thePea’s 21st birthday.
August saw the closing of one of my publishers which left me free to self-pub the three titles contracted to them. One Night In Bangkok, Singapore Fling & All Of You went back out onto the cyber shelves late October & mid November.
The first weekend in November saw me packing a bag and heading across the city to Jess Dee’s house where the first annual Down Under Divas conference was held. If you follow any of us on twitter or facebook you were privy to some serious work going on. Of course we did take time out to eat at a few local establishments.
In late November Princess One turned 21 and we made sure she enjoyed the moment with numerous parties
December proved to be a super busy month with three releases. Secret Santa, another holiday novella
And the first in my new Are You Game? series, 7 Minutes In Heaven
Then we had a HUGE moment in our lives. Son#1 & Lady-no-longer-waiting got engaged. They’d bought their first apartment earlier this year and moved out so we were eagerly anticipating this next step for them. We held the party at our house and I was pleasantly surprised at how well the night went. Everything ran smoothly right up until the end of the evening when we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a marshmallow fight. Yes, that’s right, sides were picked, tables were overturned for shelter and marshmallows flew. To my delight, once the madness was over the participants went around picking up all the debris leaving me with a relatively clean yard. Here’s the happy couple cutting the cake.
Before you ask, let me explain the cake. From days before Son#1 asked Lady-in-waiting (her name has changed now they’re engaged) to be his girl it’s been a family joke to refer to them as TimTam because in real life they’re Timothy and Tamara. It started as a joke, a way to tease Son#1 about his first serious girl way back when he’d barely made it through puberty. Yes, they’ve been together since 2006 when the were both only 16. Talk about staying power. Anyway, here’s a closer look at that gorgeous cake!
Wow! What a year! And we haven’t even hit Christmas yet! I’m exhausted and there’s still the next week to get through. Now if you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll go pop my feet up and wait for 2014 to arrive. I think I deserve a break don’t you?
