Valerie’s Year in Review
My year in review is nothing compared to some of these ladies. I was going to whine about that until I realized I shouldn’t compare myself to anyone. Doing that is just pointless, so no whining! No comparing! This is my life, my path, and it takes me where it takes me.
Most of you know I’ve been on a weight loss journey for a few years now. I actually started getting serious in April of 2011. I’ve lost 90 pounds (almost 41 kilos) since I started, 30 of which were this year. I wanted to hit my goal of 100 pounds lost for 2013, but didn’t quite get there. I will say that I did put on muscle weight – and as my trainer tells me – muscle weighs more. If I hadn’t been working out with a trainer, I probably would have hit the goal, but I’m happy with the results so far. See for yourself.
The goal for 2014 is to hit the 100 mark (and then some), but mainly I want to get into a size 10 pants (and not have muffin top). I’m hoping to achieve that by May – just in time for RT in New Orleans. Sadly, there will be no bikinis for me (go Lexxie!) as the 100+ pounds have taken its toll on my skin and will not bounce back enough to look decent in a bikini.
Here’s a pic with me and Mari. The top is from RAW 2010 and the bottom is RAW 2013. Mari looks gorgeous in both!
I turned 48 this year. Not a big milestone, but for the first time in many years, I’m healthy. I’m happy. And that’s good. My husband and I celebrated 21 years together. That was an awesome accomplishment. That man – bless his heart – has stuck by me through thick and thin (literally). Love him. <3
On the job front, I did get to change my schedule at the day job. I was able to switch to part time (working 3 days a week) for the last 4 months of the year and I will be able to continue that into 2014. The design work has offset the income loss from the day job, and I can only hope it continues to grow. I did a lot of covers for the IH ladies this year, and I love that they’ve helped keep my design business going. You all are the bestest! :D I was hired on as the Marketing Art Assistant for Liquid Silver books, in addition to my regular clients and freelance jobs with several publishers (Samhain, Ellora’s Cave, Loose-ID, Steam Ereads, Sizzler Editions, Etopia, Lyrical).
Thank you to all my clients and publishers who’ve helped me achieve this goal. The next is to give the day job up all together and it could be as early as 2015. We’ll see how 2014 progresses.
Here’s to a great 2014!
